AFTER DEATH: A Live Score by Kevin Lynch
|
Sunday, March 4, musician Kevin Lynch (Strange Rivals, Grooms) will provide a uniquely brooding, romantic live score to Yevgeni Bauer’s After Death. Infused with gothic-leaning symbolist influences, Bauer’s films represent some of the darkest, most accomplished psychological dramas of silent cinema. After Death, adapted from a story by Ivan Turgenev, concerns a student whose romantic fixation with a beautiful young stage actress deepens after her suicide. Bauer’s staple themes of decadence, obsession and death are expressed through intricately choreographed cinematography and rich mise-en-scène that a century on maintain the power to enrapture viewers. “Distinctly Russian in their brooding mood yet universal in their remarkable psychological sophistication, Bauer's films have been justly called the work of the greatest director you've never heard of.” —Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times Kevin Lynch is a Berklee College of Music graduate who plays drums in Brooklyn bands Grooms and Strange Rivals. He is also a composer and illustrator. Sunday’s live soundtrack will comprise electronic instruments, loops and effects. Sun, Mar 4, 2012 8:00pm Doors at 7:30pm Door Price: $5.00
